After the Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Corporation officials assured the protesters that water would be released in Jayakwadi Dam on Wednesday (November 22), the farmers along with MLA Rajesh Tope withdrew their agitation at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Monday night. Meanwhile, Jayakwadi water issue will be heard in Supreme Court today (Tuesday). Marathwada along with Nagar, Nashik district have also been paying attention to it. (Maharashtra News)

Jayakwadi’s water problem is now well lit. Water resources department has ordered to release 8.5 tmc of water in Jayakwadi but the water is not released. Due to this, the farmers of Marathwada have become aggressive. After the farmers, leaders also fight for water. On the other hand, the sugar factories in western Maharashtra have approached the Supreme Court to get a stay on the order to release water from Jayakwadi.

Meanwhile, farmers staged a protest on Jalna road demanding release of water. The protestors were detained by the police and taken to different police stations. The activists along with MLA Rajesh Tope were taken to CIDCO MIDC police station. A case was registered against 12 people at this place.

Right in front of the police station, Tope and farmers started a sit-in protest. Finally, at eight o’clock in the night, the officials of the Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Corporation gave a written assurance that the water would be released on Wednesday. After that, the protestors calmed down.

Today (Tuesday) Supreme Court will hear about Jayakwadi water. Marathwada Association of Small Scale Industries and Ex. Dr. Kalyan Kale has filed an intervention application in the petition filed in the Supreme Court to release water from Nashik and Nagar dams in Jayakwadi Dam. It will be heard today.

The Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation, in an office order dated 30 October 23, had passed an order to release water from the reservoirs of the dam group in the Upper Godavari basin into the Paithan Dam.

Accordingly, 8.6 TMC water of right was to be released to Marathwada. However, the leaders of Ahmednagar and Nashik districts withheld the rightful water of Marathwada and deprived Marathwada of water despite the order to release the water.

The Sanjeevani (Takli) Cooperative Sugar Factory has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to stop the release of water in Jayakwadi Dam and to stay the order of the Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation to release water.

To oppose this petition, Kale mentioned that he has filed a separate intervention application in the Supreme Court on behalf of Advocate Prasad Jarare.
