NCERT Syllabus: The National Council of Educational Research and Training Committee – NCERT has made key proposals regarding changes and additions in school books. It seems that this committee has recommended that epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata should be included in social science history textbooks. In addition to this, some recent media reports said that the NCERT committee suggested that the Preamble of the Constitution should be written in local languages ​​on the classroom walls of the school. A high-level committee appointed by NCERT regarding social science has proposed several changes in the curriculum of this subject. However, NCERT, responding to this news, did not disclose the details saying that the syllabus is still being designed.

Currently, history in social sciences curriculum is divided into 3 sections. They tell the history of ancient, medieval and modern eras. But NCERT panel recommended to divide this history into 4 parts. Classic Period (Traditional History), Middle Ages, British Period, Modern India. It states that epics and Puranas like Ramayana and Mahabharata should be included in classical history. NCERT Committee Chairman CI Isaac revealed that the students should know who Rama is and what his intentions are.

On the other hand, the NCERT committee recommended that history books provide more information about the reign of Indian kings. It stated that the lessons of freedom fighters like Subhash Chandra Bose should be included. On the other hand, it is proposed to write the Preamble of the Constitution on the classroom walls of all schools across the country from now on. The NCERT committee has already recommended that the name Bharat should be used instead of India in the textbooks.

However, NCERT has recently responded to media reports about the committee’s recommendations in the history curriculum as part of the social sciences syllabus. It has been clarified that the process of designing the new syllabus in the textbooks is still going on. However, the recommendations given by the NCERT panel have not yet been approved by the NCERT.
