It has come to light that the youth who voted for the first time in the parliamentary elections gave importance to the state parties and voted considering aspects of social welfare schemes and corruption.

April for all 40 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The election was held on the 19th. In Tamil Nadu, there was a four-sided contest between DMK, AIADMK, BJP and Nataka. Tamil Nadu has a total of 6.23 crore voters. Among them, 10.92 lakh are first generation voters. Who are the first-time voters supporting? There was great expectation among the political parties.

In this case, we spoke to the young men and women who had voted for the first time in the Salem parliamentary constituency. It was revealed that they were voting based on corruption and social welfare schemes and most of them were giving importance to state parties.

Another interesting information was found in this. Among those who voted for the first time, it has come to light that young women have supported the state government’s schemes and the youth have supported Seeman’s Nam Tamilar Party. That is, even though they are of the same age, young women and young men think differently. However, they refused to openly say which party they voted for. However, from their answers to our questions, we could almost guess who they voted for.

How was the experience of voting for the first time?, was there parental involvement in who to vote for?, was your vote a national party? Or the state party? On what basis did you vote? What are the schemes of the Tamil Nadu government that attracted you? We posed the following questions. We met some first-generation voters in the Salem North assembly constituency. They said..

Akshaya Priya (B.Sc., Student): Coming to the polling station and voting for the first time was a fun experience. I voted keeping in mind that whoever comes to power will get protection for women and considering that new people should come to power.

Poornima(B.E., Student): As a citizen it is our duty to vote. I thought and voted by myself without anyone’s intervention, including father and mother. I voted for those who come and do good. I don’t vote for national parties. I voted for the state party. I don’t know anything about the good and bad of the current welfare schemes implemented by the government.

Agalya (B.Com., CA, Student): I was happy that we were going to vote for the first time. We have got an identity card. The present government in Tamil Nadu is also working well. Even better would be great.

Soundarya(MA, student, Agalya’s sister): I feel proud that they have given us the responsibility of electing a good leader for this country. Me and my sister Agalya voted for only one national party. We voted because we want the country to go well and we want a strong Prime Minister. The present central government and the DMK government in Tamil Nadu are working well.

Nivetha (B.A., student): Coming to the polling station for the first time and voting was a new experience. I would have voted for the good ones. I voted thinking that the traditional National Party should come to power. I am studying in Govt Arts College. Tamil Nadu government’s free bus scheme for girls and innovation girl scheme are liked.

Vetrivel (B.E., student): It is necessary for everyone to vote, realizing the responsibility that they are going to elect a government for 140 crore people. Elections can be held in two phases to avoid low turnout. The main reason for low voter turnout was the inability of people who had gone to work abroad to go to their hometowns to vote. Even though Tamil Nadu has a large number of educated people, due to lack of employment there has been an increase in the number of people looking for work abroad. So we have to create new jobs in our state. For that, new people with new thinking should come to power. I voted keeping in mind that we should govern ourselves. Although narcotics such as ganja were in circulation in Tamil Nadu earlier, now they are in high circulation. Even junior students in our college have seen firsthand the use of ganja. I did not vote for the parties that were in power till now, I voted with the idea that new people should come to power. Not everything goes to everyone here. There is a situation where the common man is unable to fulfill any need.

Pradeep Kumar (B.E., Student): First generation voters must vote as it is our duty to vote. I have already told my parents that no one should interfere in who to vote for. Instead of blaming others, I voted based on what I would do if I came to power. The people who have been in power so far have been deceiving the people in one way or another. As I am not much interested in national parties, I voted for the state party. I have voted for those who have consistently advocated for quality education for students. Those who were already in power did not want to come back to power. So I voted for the new one.

Pavitra (B.Com., Student): When I voted for the first time, I felt that I had grown up and become a responsible citizen. I voted not only for myself, but for the good of everyone. Young generation like me should get quality education. Some get preference despite having the same educational qualification. Some are excluded for some reason. I voted thinking that there should not be any kind of religious and caste differences. Everyone should be treated equally regardless of caste and religion. Free bus scheme for girls and scholarship schemes for male and female students of Tamil Nadu government are liked. Everyone likes this government feeding. I voted for one state party.

Akshaya (BA, Tamil): Ever since I got my voter ID card, I was excited to vote for the first time. There was also an expectation that we were going to vote to elect the Prime Minister of this country. I voted for the ruling party so far. I hope to get more good projects by supporting them. Free bus for women, giving 1000 rupees per month to female students under Muvalur Ramamirtham scheme is helpful for higher studies. The Tamil Nadu government works by giving priority to women. I welcome the women’s stipend to encourage women. I cannot accept that some criticize this as begging. It is those whom we have chosen who give us the right amount. It cannot be called begging.

Surekha (B.E., student): I am happy to vote in the elections for the first time. Mother told me to vote for the party that does good to the people. I voted for the party he said. I voted for the state party. The free bus scheme and women’s entitlement scheme are also popular. In particular, this government works with emphasis on women.

Pooja and Rahul: Our native state is Rajasthan. We are settled in Tamil Nadu. We were born and educated here. I like Tamilnadu culture and food better than our state. But we voted for the National Party. Thus young generation voters shared their experiences and opinions.
