EVM – VVPAT 100% Verification.. What are the main guidelines issued by Supreme Court? – Kumudam – News

The Lok Sabha elections are going on in 7 phases across India. 21 States and Union Territories including Tamil Nadu went to polls on 19th, today (26.04.24) 13 States and Union Territories including Kerala, Karnataka and Manipur will hold polling in the 2nd phase.

In this case, during the Lok Sabha elections, a case was filed in the Supreme Court that, along with the votes recorded in the electronic voting machine, the acknowledgment slip called VVPET, which shows who the voters voted for, should be counted 100 percent. Earlier, Supreme Court Justice Sanjeev Khanna had said that there was some doubt in the matter of admit card when the case was heard. Subsequently, it was reported that the Supreme Court will give a verdict in this case today (26.04.24) amidst the excitement of the Lok Sabha elections.

Accordingly, amid great anticipation, this case came up for hearing in the Supreme Court, in the sitting of Justice Khanna. At that time, the Supreme Court dismissed all the petitions that insisted on 100% verification of paper ballot, EVM – VVPAT. Subsequently, Justice Khanna, announcing the issuance of two guidelines, said that after the work of registration of the symbol is complete, it should be sealed and kept safe for 45 days.

He also issued further instructions that a team of engineers may check the microcontroller burnt memory in the EVM after the election results as requested by the candidates. He also said that within 7 days of the announcement of the election results, the 2nd and 3rd ranked candidates can insist on this test. He said that the expenses for this should be borne by the concerned candidates and if any error is found in the EVM, the amount will be refunded.

Justice Khanna has also asked the Election Commission to examine whether an electronic machine can be used to count the admit card and a barcode for each symbol.

Speaking amid this, Justice Dutta said blindly mistrusting an organization would lead to unnecessary suspicions.
