New Delhi: Center has released funds of Rs.3,454 crore to Karnataka for drought relief works. A high-level committee headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the release of funds under Drought Relief (Kharip 2023), the finance ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

The Karnataka government has asked the Center to release Rs 18,174 crore for drought relief works, including compensation of Rs 5,661 crore to farmers who lost their crops due to lack of rains. However, the delay in the release of central funds led to a war of words between Karnataka and the Centre. The Karnataka government blamed the Center for adopting a step-motherly attitude towards the southern state of Karnataka. However, the Center has been saying that Karnataka has sufficient funds under the Natural Disaster Fund to undertake relief work. The Karnataka government recently approached the Supreme Court against the central delay for nine months. The Supreme Court was asked to intervene in the release of drought relief funds. The Center has assured the Supreme Court that a positive decision will be taken as soon as possible to provide relief to Karnataka.
