Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other big leaders were involved in this. It is reported that the candidates for Amethi and Rae Bareli seats of Uttar Pradesh have not been decided.
According to sources, in the meeting of the Central Election Committee of the Congress on Saturday night, the names of the candidates for the seats of Amethi and Rae Bareli were brainstormed, but the candidates could not be approved. In the meeting, CEC members requested Rahul Gandhi to contest from Amethi and Priyanka Gandhi from Rae Bareli. However, the decision has been left to the Congress President.
When will the candidate for Amethi-Rae Bareli seat be announced?
According to sources, announcement on Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seats of UP is possible in a day or two, but suspense remains on Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi contesting the elections. Five seats of Punjab were also discussed in the Congress CEC meeting, but no decision was taken.
Brainstorming on names of candidates intensified
All eyes were on the seats of Amethi and Rae Bareli regarding the meeting of the Central Election Committee of Congress. However, as no decision has been taken on these, the situation of doubt still persists. It is believed that Rahul Gandhi may once again contest the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi.
At the same time, there is speculation that Priyanka Gandhi will contest the elections on the Rae Bareli seat vacated by Sonia Gandhi’s departure to Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, posters in the name of Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra have also appeared at many places in Amethi.
Mallikarjun Kharge was also asked a question about this during a press conference before the CEC meeting. Then he had said that when the candidate is decided then it will be announced. This will take some time.
BJP is attacking Rahul Gandhi regarding Amethi
BJP has been continuously attacking Congress regarding Rahul Gandhi’s candidature from Amethi. Union Minister Smriti Irani, who defeated Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, has accused Rahul Gandhi of not contesting the elections from Amethi due to fear of defeat. However, local Congress leaders are continuously demanding to make Rahul Gandhi a candidate from here.
