Nashik : Adding experience to his studies, the Agricultural Assistant at Yewla has brought the accounts of bulk grains to everyone in the form of a book. Agriculture Assistant Sonali Kadam has written a book titled ‘Millets Kitchen’ to convey the experiences and the importance of pulses during the millet year. The book release ceremony of this book was held recently.

For the past 11 years, Sonali Kadam has been working as an agricultural assistant at Adgaon Chothwa in Yevla taluka. Born in a farming family, Sonali Kadam, who works with the idea that ‘Farming is not just a profession.. it is a way of life’. That is why they have been doing work related to agricultural soil since the beginning. While working as an agricultural assistant, the previous year was celebrated as Year of Nutritious Cereals. It is known as Bharddhanya or Shree Dhanya. It was against this backdrop that he got the opportunity to work closely with Millets.

Meanwhile, in India, cereals were cultivated on a large scale in dryland areas, but due to changing cropping systems, it decreased. On behalf of the Maharashtra government, a campaign called Mission Millet was implemented to create public awareness about the importance of diet. Doctors always say to use cereals in your diet. Housewives used to ask about this all the time. During this time different experiences were coming. So what is millet, its importance in diet, how to prepare it? Sonali Kadam decided to present the answers to all such questions in the form of a book. Interestingly, the book Millet’s Kitchen from Marathi language has come before everyone.

The year 2023 was celebrated as International Millet Charsha. Programs were held in different forms across the country, through these programs Millet was propagated. Got an opportunity to be a part of this initiative. Taking advantage of this opportunity, this book was realized from the perspective that we can convey the information of coarse grains to the people in the form of a book. While working as an agricultural assistant, information about coarse grains was given. But there was no knowledge about the cuisine. Due to this, an attempt has been made to provide information in simple language in Marathi. – Sonali Shelke Kadam, Agriculture Assistant, Yewla
