Amit Tiwari, Mira-Bhayander: An ‘illegal hotel’ has been built on government land. Now preparations are underway to sell liquor at this hotel. However, the people living outside the building of Mira Bhayander where this hotel is built are opposing it. MLA Pratap Sarnaik had asked the government to beautify this land. He had also said that he would protect this land from encroachment. Talathi has also accepted the fact of illegal construction on the said land and has informed the Tehsildar for action. Apart from this, the Municipal Corporation administration has also received dozens of complaints in this regard, but it is alleged that the Municipal Corporation and the district administration have closed their eyes under the guise of red tape. The matter pertains to the government land (New Survey- 81) in front of Gaurav Garden adjacent to Tunga Hospital. On one hand, the job of the Municipal Corporation is to stop illegal construction, while on the other hand, the Municipal Corporation has given ‘legitimate’ permission for ‘illegal construction’ in the name of ‘installing a shed’ on this government land.

License sought to sell liquor

A magnificent shed has been built on this land after spending lakhs of rupees. The hotel/shop/property to which the shed is adjacent belongs to Purvesh Sarnaik, son of Shiv Sena MLA Sarnaik. Purvesh has also applied for F-L-03 license to sell liquor at this hotel/shop/property. The residents of the building are openly opposed to this illegal shed and liquor license.

Question on Sarnaik’s role

MLA Sarnaik has shrugged off the illegal construction going on openly by saying that his son has given the hotel/shop/property on rent, hence he has no connection with it. While today Sarnaik is silent on this illegal construction, in 2012 he had demanded this land from the state government, so that there is no encroachment on it. People say that Sarnaik himself has encroached on the land which was taken to protect it from encroachment.

Administration bowed under the pressure of power

Youth Congress President Siddhesh Rane says that the Municipal Corporation and the district administration are working completely under the pressure of the ruling MLA. Under pressure from the government, the administration is openly allowing illegal construction on a government land. Municipal Commissioner could not be contacted regarding this.
