Indira Gandhi was defeated from Rae Bareli in 1977 elections after emergency. After that, Indira Gandhi decided to contest from two constituencies in the 1980 elections. One of them is Medak Constituency in present day Telangana. Indira Gandhi won from Medak (the then united Andhra Pradesh) by getting as many as 2.95 lakh votes. Congress had won 41 out of 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh at that time.

When Indira Gandhi was assassinated in 1984, she was the MP from Medak.

Even now, Congress has announced some schemes in the name of Indira Gandhi. These schemes are for women, below poverty line families and farmers.

KCR’s reply

BR Chief and Telangana Chief Minister KCR attacked Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s claim in recent public meetings. He said, during Indira Gandhi’s tenure as MP, deaths due to malnutrition, growth of Naxalism and extrajudicial killings increased.

KCR reiterated this while speaking at a public meeting in Nagarkurnool assembly constituency on Sunday (November 19). “Congress said that Indiramma state will come again in Telangana. Do you know what happened in their state? At that time there were deaths due to malnutrition, Naxalist movement emerged in the entire country and many people were killed in fake encounters. In the Congress state, the citizens of the country did not even get clean and pure drinking water for decades. Congress could not provide drinking water to other areas even though many rivers flowed through its area. Congress Now on what basis is he asking for votes?”, asked KCR.

How true is the claim of malnutrition?

According to KCR’s claim, malnutrition was a problem in united Andhra Pradesh during Congress rule. N. T.
