Loan apps to be removed: Kerala asked for 172; Only 117 apps were removed by the Centre

Thiruvananthapuram: The Center has taken action on only 117 of the list provided by Kerala requesting to disconnect internet connection of loan apps. 172 Kerala demanded that the internet connection of the app be avoided. Action on the rest of the apps is delayed citing lack of complaints during the Centre’s inspection and technicalities in registration.

The cyber police has initiated a strong action to prevent loan fraud. As part of this, more than 300 apps were found to be operating illegally. 158 which were working on iOS platform were removed by notice under IT Act. The remaining 172 have been handed over to the Center for action. The central IT department has the power to disconnect apps from the internet. The Cyber Police should inform the Central IT Secretary through the State IT Secretary to take steps for this. This slows down the process.

In this situation, the police had sent a letter to the center two months ago, requesting that the state should be given the authority to control the loan apps. No reply has been received in this regard yet. Many of the loan apps cannot be downloaded from Playstore or App Store. The links on Facebook and Telegram are working with IP addresses in foreign countries. Such apps can be blocked to some extent if the IP address can be blocked in India.
