Lahore, February 25 (Language) Chief Minister’s election will be held in the Assembly of Pakistan’s Punjab province on Monday, in which there is a strong possibility of Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, becoming the first woman Chief Minister of the province.

Punjab Assembly Secretary Aamir Habib said in a statement on Sunday, “Chief Minister elections will be held in Punjab on Monday (tomorrow). Chief Ministerial candidates can file their nomination papers on Sunday (today).”

Since the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PMLN) and its allies have a simple majority in the House, the party has no problem in electing the chief minister.

PMLN has secured both the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly.

The election for the post of chief minister will be between PMLN’s Maryam Nawaz, 50, and Imran Khan’s PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) candidate Rana Aftab Ahmed.

In a marathon session of the Punjab Assembly on Saturday, the MLAs elected PML-N leader Malik Ahmed Khan as the Speaker of the House and Zaheer Iqbal Channar as the Deputy Speaker through secret ballot.
