Kolkata ∙ In Nagaland, out of 4 lakh voters in 6 districts, none voted for 19. The rare boycott was in Mon, Tusang, Kiffair, Longli, Noklak and Shamtore districts demanding a separate state in the name of Frontier Nagaland. All 20 MLAs of the ruling NDPP and BJP did not participate in the polls. The election was for the only Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland. In 2019, the turnout was 83%, but this time it was only 56.91%. There are 13.5 lakh voters in 16 districts across the state.
NDPP’s Dr. The candidates are Chumben Mari, S. Supongmeren Jamir of Congress and independent candidate Haitung Bill Lotha. Alleging that development has not reached Eastern Nagaland, residents of the region are demanding a separate state. The fight is between NCP (SP) candidate Mohammad Faisal, Congress candidate Hamdullah Saeed, NCP Ajit Pawar faction candidate T. P. Yusuf and independent candidate K. Koya.
Polling in Tamil Nadu is down
Chennai ∙ Tamil Nadu polling 69.46%. 72.09% was reported yesterday. In 2019, the polling was 72.44%. 3% less this time.
