Thiruvananthapuram: People of Kerala have collected an amount of Rs 35 crore to save a person who was imprisoned in Saudi jail for the last 18 years. It may not be believed at first glance, but by showing solidarity, the people of Kerala have made the adage of filling the pot drop by drop true. After collecting this huge amount, the release of Kozhikode resident Abdul Rahim will now be ensured. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has praised the unity of the people. Abdul Rahim, a resident of Kozhikode, had moved to Saudi Arabia in 2006 to work as a driver. When he went to Saudi, he got a job as a driver there. Rahim got the job of taking his disabled son to the house of Al Shahri, a big rich man there. It had just been a month since I started working that one day Rahim had gone out to take Anas for a walk. Then during the journey Anas became agitated. While handling the child, Rahim’s hand touched the tab around his neck. Anas became unconscious and later died. A court in Riyadh found Rahim guilty of murder and sentenced him to death. Rahim did not get relief even in the next court. The legal aid committee formed to get the release of jailed Abdul Rahim got success in December 2021. In this, Al Shahri’s family made a blood money deal and asked for 15 million Saudi Riyals (about Rs 35 crore).

Hindus also came forward along with Muslims
K Suresh, head of the legal committee formed to save Rahim, planned to collect funds through crowdfunding. He launched the app in the best transparent manner as suggested by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). An IT firm created an app. Crowd funding was started before Ramadan. Muslims donate a lot during Ramadan. In such a situation, an amount of Rs 1 crore came in the first 9 minutes. After this further efforts were made. Along with Muslims, Hindus also supported the campaign of Save Abdul Rahim and collected an amount of Rs 35 crore. Of this, an amount of Rs 9.3 crore came from Malappuram district of Kerala. An amount of Rs 6 crore was received from the Gulf country, while Rs 5.3 crore was received from Kozhikode district.

Will meet mother after 18 years
According to KK Alikutty, convenor of the legal committee formed to save Rahim, he cooperated more than the common people. They say that this is really a real Kerala story. After the money was collected, Rahim’s lawyers informed the Saudi Court that the blood money has been collected. Rahim’s elderly mother Fatima last saw her son in November 2006 when he passed away. Now the mother’s eyes are waiting for Rahim to return soon. Rahim’s mother has thanked everyone. Fatima says that after the cooperation of the people, her son is coming back. Love and brotherhood among the people has saved his son.
