Ghazipur Landfill is known all over the world. Aaye din Ise ki jor karne karne khapatti rahta hai but this time yeh tab chachara mein aya jab ese par fierce fire laga gayi. This has filled the entire area with poisonous gas and smoke. Ghazipur landfill site spread over 70 acres was started in the year 1984. Its height was about 65 meters equal to Qutub Minar. However, it is now reduced to 50 meters in height. Earlier, around 140 lakh tonnes of waste was lying here. The target was to finish it in 2024, but now it has been extended till 2026.

Due to this, the deadline has been extended
In the year 2019, the work of removing the accumulated garbage at the Ghazipur landfill site was started, then there was 140 metric tons of garbage there. After that, under the supervision of LG, it was decided that by the year 2024, the landfill site will be eliminated and a park will be developed here, but this has not happened yet.

Gazipur Landfill

According to the data of Delhi Municipal Corporation, about 46 metric tons of garbage has been disposed of with the help of 25 trammel machines in 5 years. This is the reason that the height of the garbage mountain has decreased, but it has not completely ended and so far there is 84 metric tons of garbage left on it.

According to the information of the corporation, one agency is currently working on waste disposal at the Ghazipur landfill site. The plan to employ another agency to speed up waste disposal is not being implemented due to administrative hurdles as no standing committee has been formed in the corporation.

For these reasons, the formation of the Paya Nigam Samiti was not possible
Till now 1 agency is working to eliminate the garbage pile because the tender for the selection process of the other agency has not come yet and the reason for this is that the most powerful committee standing of the corporation could not be formed because Delhi According to the Municipal Corporation Act, any tender is first brought after approval from the Standing Committee. This is the reason why this agency is doing garbage disposal work on Ghazipur Kude Ke Pahar. Due to the slow pace of work, the deadline for complete elimination of the mountain of waste has been extended to 2026.

Gazipur Landfill

Delhi Municipal Corporation Public Relations Officer Amit Kumar says that another agency was to be selected to dispose of the 30 lakh tonnes of garbage present at the Ghazipur landfill site, which is stalled due to non-constitution of a standing committee. So the pace of waste disposal is still slow.

Urban expert Jagdish Mamgai says that Ghazipur is not affected by the fire, but the whole area till Mayur Vihar Phase 3 becomes polluted. At the same time, many researches have come across that underground water is also contaminated. Apart from this, people living within a radius of about 7 kilometers from the landfill site are badly affected.
