Agrani River Agrowon
Sangli News : At present, the canal is overflowing due to water from Mhaisal and Tembhu irrigation scheme in Kavthemahankal taluka. Against this backdrop, the lifeline of Kavthe Mahankal taluka, the river, has dried up. Due to this, the leading river bank farmers of Kavthe Mahankal taluka are angry.
The villages on the Ghat are dry despite the Tembu irrigation scheme flowing on the Ghat. In Kavthemahankal taluka, Mhaisal and Tembhu schemes are running and some villages in the taluka are not benefiting. Therefore, the thirsty farmers of the river banks are protesting in the leading river. Malangaon, Shirdhon, Morgaon, Vithurayachi Wadi, Hingangaon, Agran Dhulgaon, Lonarwadi are villages in the river valley belt.
As the leading river flowing through these villages has been dry for several days, the water problem of the respective villages is serious. Therefore, agriculture does not get water. The Mhaisal and Tembhu schemes have become ‘not a hindrance but a hindrance’. If the river is channeled perennially, water-deprived villages in the taluk will be drought-free.
Apart from this, thousands of hectares of agriculture will come under irrigation and the problem of drinking water for farm-animals along with drinking will be solved forever. If the leading river continues to flow, the farmers will change their traditional agriculture and will also ‘hi-tech’ the business of fruit farming, flower farming and vegetable farming. It will bring financial stability.
Hingangaon is the largest on the banks of the river. The population, area is also more here. Agriculture is the main occupation of the villagers. This agriculture depends only on water. Then the Irrigation Department was repeatedly requested to release water in the river. But the concerned authorities are turning a blind eye. If the water is not released in the next few days, we are going to protest in Hingangaon.

A few days ago, the water of ‘Mhaisal’ was released into the river. But did not move forward from Hingangaon. A statement was given to the tehsildars that the water of ‘Mhaisal’ should be filled in the dams in Dhulgaon and water should be given to Dhulgaon. But due to not paying attention to it, the members and villagers staged half-naked protest in the river on Friday. Then the officials of ‘Patbandhare’ gave an assurance. So the movement was withdrawn.

Lonarwadi is a small village in Kavthemahankal taluka on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border. Till date the village has suffered a lot from drought. Leave water in ‘Agrani’, otherwise allow Karnataka to join.
