State Bureau, Patna. Congress has given ticket to Khanpur block chief Sunny Hazari from Samastipur Lok Sabha seat. Sunny Hazari is the son of Maheshwari Hazari, a minister in the state government. He is facing competition from Shambhavi, daughter of Ashok Choudhary, another minister in Nitish cabinet.

Shambhavi is the LJP candidate in the National Democratic Alliance. Kishore Kunal, a famous IPS officer, is his father-in-law. It is possible that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will face a dilemma in the election campaign after seeing the children of two ministers under him face to face.

However, Maheshwar Hazari has announced to stay away from the Samastipur grounds. In 2009, he won the election from this seat on JDU ticket.

Nitish had ousted Congress from here, now hope is from Anshul

Anshul will face former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in Patna Sahib. He is contesting elections from BJP for the second time. Last time, Ravi Shankar Prasad had reached Parliament by defeating Congress candidate Shatrughan Sinha. In 2014, Shatrughan Sinha was the BJP candidate and Congress had fielded Kunal Singh against him. They also remained farms.

Even in 2009, Shatrughan had won here as a BJP candidate. Then Congress had lost the elections despite pitting actor against actor. The Congress candidate was Shekhar Suman, who like Bihari Babu is a native of Patna. The parliamentary history of Patna Sahib starts from 2009. Before that, with slight geographical changes, it used to be the Barh parliamentary constituency.

The last victory for Congress here was in 1984 by Prakash Chandra. However, the margin of victory was much higher then. Prakash Chandra got 63.74 percent votes. In the next election i.e. in 1989, Nitish Kumar almost ousted Congress from this seat by defeating Ramlakhan Singh Yadav. Nitish Barh has been MP for five consecutive terms. In 2004, RJD’s Vijay Krishna defeated him here.
