India is the fourth largest military spender in the world.

Starting from poverty-stricken countries to superpowers, they are showing more interest in spending on the military.

In that way, the amount spent by all countries on military is increasing significantly every year. In this case, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute known as SIPRI has published an annual report on the world’s military expenditures in 2023.

According to this, in 2023, the military expenditure of the countries of the world will be 203 lakh crore rupees, an increase of 6.8 percent over the level of 2022.

The military budget of the United States, which continues to be the number one in military expenditure, will reach 76.37 lakh crore rupees in 2023, an increase of 2.3 percent over the 2022 level.

This is 37 percent of the total military expenditure of the entire world. Second-ranked China’s military budget is 24.67 lakh crore rupees in 2023, a 6 percent increase over the 2022 level.

Russia, which is waging war on Ukraine, is third on the list. Russia has earmarked Rs 9.08 lakh crore in its 2023 military budget. This is 24 percent more than the funds allocated in 2022.

Similarly, India, which is ranked fourth, will spend Rs 6.96 lakh crore on its military in 2023. This is 4.2 percent more than the 2022 allocation. Saudi Arabia is in fifth place. Saudi Arabia’s military budget is 6.32 trillion rupees in 2023, an increase of 4.3 percent over the 2022 level.

It is noteworthy that the share of the top 5 countries is 61 percent of the total military expenditure in the world. Israel, which is waging a war on Gaza, is at 15th place with 2.29 lakh crore. This is 24 percent more than the funds allocated for the year 2022. Also, Pakistan, which is suffering from severe economic crisis, is ranked 30th in this list. Pakistan has allocated 71 thousand crore rupees in the 2023-military budget. It is noteworthy that this is 13 percent less than last year.

It is noteworthy that in this list, Russia and Israel, which are conducting wars, have raised the funds to a maximum of 24 percent in 2023.

As far as India is concerned, about 80 percent of the military budget is spent on salaries, pensions and maintenance.

Only 20 percent is earmarked for procurement of modern weapons and logistics, the report says.
