Lok Sabha Elections 2024 RLD Chief Jayant Chaudhary Taunt On Akhilesh Yadav Contesting Elections From Kannauj Seat

UP Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has also entered the electoral fray for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has filed his nomination from Kannauj seat on Thursday (April 25). Meanwhile, Rashtriya Lok Dal President Jayant Chaudhary has taken a dig at SP chief Akhilesh Yadav contesting elections from Kannauj seat.

RLD leader Jayant Choudhary, an old ally of SP, said on Akhilesh Yadav contesting the elections from Kannauj, see how long he is fighting, maybe the day after tomorrow someone else will contest, the ticket may change. Along with this, Jayant Choudhary said that on Congress not announcing candidates from Amethi and Rae Bareli, discussions would be going on and the candidates would be looking for ways to enter the fight. However, on the demand of the workers, Akhilesh Yadav’s name was again declared on the Kannauj seat. BJP has again made the sitting MP Subrata Pathak the candidate from Kannauj seat. There was an alliance between Samajwadi Party and BSP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, despite this, Dimple Yadav was defeated by Subrata Pathak on Kannauj seat.

Kannauj has been the stronghold of SP

Kannauj Lok Sabha seat includes five assembly constituencies in three districts. SP was in possession of this seat since 1998. However, in 2019, BJP won this seat. In the year 1998, Pradeep Yadav had won on SP ticket. After this, again in 1999, Mulayam Singh Yadav had won this seat. Then when Mulayam Singh Yadav said goodbye to Kannauj in 2000, he handed over the throne to his son Akhilesh Yadav. Akhilesh Yadav became MP from this seat thrice, then in 2012 when Akhilesh became the Chief Minister of the state, he got his wife Dimple Yadav elected unopposed in the by-election. After this, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, his wife Dimple Yadav again became MP from Kannauj. However, in the 2019 elections, Subrata Pathak, who contested on BJP ticket, defeated Dimple Yadav and snatched this seat from her.
