Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu is conducting a three-day survey in collaboration with Kerala to find the exact number of Varayats. The survey will be conducted on April 29, 30 and May 1. Officials said that this kind of survey is being conducted for the first time in the country in an extensive and scientific manner with the participation of officials from two states.
Tamil Nadu Additional Chief Secretary Forest and Environment Supriya Sahu informed that the preparations for the survey have been completed. The survey will be conducted in Iravikulam, Silent Valley National Parks, Nilgiris and other places where warayads are present in the Western Ghats. 700 people will participate.
Varyads are mostly seen in the Western Ghats forest region between the two states. The Tamil Nadu government had announced a plan to protect them in the budget this time. Necessary funds were also allocated for this. Work has also started in Coimbatore. A joint survey is being conducted as part of follow-up activities. Projects will be planned based on the survey report.
