Ganesh Puja is a big festival there which everyone from children to old people celebrate wholeheartedly. But now breaking these boundaries, a glimpse of the celebration of Ganesh Puja was also seen in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal.

It is known that on the lines of Durga Puja in Bengal, freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak started the worship of Ganesh ji in public places of then Bombay and now it seems to be popular in Kolkata as well. In Bengal, there is a special recognition of Maa Durga and Kali.

Due to the corona virus epidemic, people could not celebrate Ganesh festival with full customs and enthusiasm and enthusiasm for the last two years, so this time no stone was left unturned. This can be seen from the fact that the sculptors in the city were very busy till the last minute as the demand for the idol of Ganesha was very high this time. Even in Kumatuli, the artisans could not get free time during this period.

Artisan Sanatan Pal says, “In the last ten years, the practice of Ganesh Puja in urban and suburban areas has increased tremendously. I usually make idols of Maa Durga but this time I got orders to make idols of Ganesh ji too.

Abhishek Das from Muraripukur in central Kolkata is a member of the Ganesh Puja Committee. He said that in the year 2008, 15 of us friends decided to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi together. Abhishek says, ‘Initially we used to worship in ward number 14 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The artisans also used to make only three idols.

Abhishek told that this time at least 30 to 40 idols were made in his workshop. In the past years, Ganesh Puja was started in many nearby areas as well.

A similar experience has been had for some Jaideep Raha, who lives in the Behala area of ​​the city. He says that even five years ago Ganesh Chaturthi was worshiped at two places in his area. But now the number has increased from eight to nine.
