A shocking fact has come to light regarding the crime in Maharashtra. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, Maharashtra had the third highest number of murders last year. According to the NCRB, Uttar Pradesh registered 3717 murder cases last year, followed by Bihar (2799) and Maharashtra (2330). Disclosing the reasons behind the killings, the NCRB data revealed that out of 2330 cases, 1027 killings occurred due to various disputes, including property disputes, family disputes, petty quarrels, money disputes and water disputes.

An analysis of the murder cases filed in Mumbai revealed that 63 cases in Mumbai were related to different types of disputes. 24 cases were related to personal vendetta or enmity, 10 cases related to murder for personal gain, 8 cases related to love affairs, 6 cases related to robbery and 3 cases related to illicit relations.

Former IPS officer YP Singh says, ‘Maharashtra has almost lost the underworld so most of the murders in the state are usually due to family disputes. Professional murders are very few in Maharashtra.’ An analysis of kidnapping crimes reported last year revealed that Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of cases (14554), followed by Maharashtra (10502) and Bihar (10198).

On the other hand, Maharashtra recorded the highest number of human trafficking cases last year after Telangana, with a total of 880 women and 10 men rescued from human trafficking last year. According to statistics, a total of 2,189 cases of human trafficking were registered across the country last year. Of these, 347 cases were reported in Telangana, 320 in Maharashtra, 203 in Assam and 201 in Kerala. (Also Read: Pune: Govt school teacher arrested for molesting minor girl students in Pune)

Considering the situation of human trafficking in Maharashtra, out of total 918 victims, 858 were women. The number of victims rescued in Maharashtra last year was 890, including 10 males. Further analysis revealed that of the rescued victims, 856 were trafficked for prostitution, 16 for forced labor, and three for forced marriage.
