Agartala. Aiming to open over 11,000 SHGs in the current financial year, despite the existing 37,738 SHGs in Tripura, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma on Tuesday said that a bank loan of Rs 468.75 crore has already been taken. A target has been set to provide and make available Rs 230 crore to SHGs in the financial year 2022-23.

He said so far Tripura government has provided loan of Rs 468.75 crore till 2022 with the support of various banks and Rs 230 crore more will be provided to SHGs for the empowerment of women and progress of rural economy across the state, whereas the government has given 302.35 crore rupees. Approved Rs. crore as Community Investment Fund (CIF).

Dev Varma said, in case of SHGs, the number of NPAs is negligible. Through this, it is evident that there is loyalty among the mothers and sisters belonging to various SHGs and the bank loans provided to them are returned without any hindrance.

Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) organized an orientation program on “PRI-CBO convergence and Village Poverty Reduction Scheme (VPRP) and Credit Camp for Women Self Help Groups” at Rabindra Satbarshiki Bhawan in Agartala city here on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister said that despite being busy with household chores, great enthusiasm was found among the women, mothers and sisters participating in various programs. Four and a half years ago, when I took over as the Minister of Rural Development Department, there were around 4000 SHGs in just three districts. Now, there are 37,738 SHGs across the state and the government plans to add 11,000 more SHGs in all the eight districts in the 2022-23 financial year.
