Where is the action against the idol of Periyar? Kanal Kannan asked for bail! High Court order to police
In this situation, Kanal Kannan, who was hiding in Puducherry, was arrested on August 15 and imprisoned. Kanal Kannan’s bail pleas were already rejected by the Chennai Egmore Court and the Principal Sessions Court.
Subsequently, he filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking bail. In his petition, he stated that what he said was not against the law of this country and the words on the statue were an offense punishable under the Indian Penal Code.
Kanal Kannan had mentioned in his petition that the police, who did not take action against those who placed the idol in front of the temple, had unfortunately registered a case against him. When this petition came up for hearing before Judge GK Ilandraiyan, the police argued that Kanal Kannan should not be granted bail as he had spoken to spread hatred.
At that time, the judge questioned Kanal Kannan’s side as to why they should talk about a person with alternative policies when they are in a party. Moreover, the judge said that it has become a fashion to speak such unnecessary comments on YouTube and granted conditional bail to Kanal Kannan. Accordingly, the judge ordered him to appear before the investigating officer morning and evening for a period of 4 weeks to sign and file an affidavit stating that he will not speak like this again.
