Palakkad: (www.kvartha.com) Due to low pressure area over Tamilnadu coast, south Kerala will receive rain. The Met Office said isolated heavy rain is likely in Malappuram, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts for the next five days. Isolated heavy rain will occur over North Kerala and South Kerala. As the low pressure area is located over the Tamilnadu coast, rainfall will increase relatively in south Kerala.
Yellow alert has been declared in all districts. According to the Meteorological Center, the rain will intensify after Thursday afternoon. A low pressure area prevails over Tamil Nadu to West Vidarbha. Fishing has been banned in Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts till Friday. Wind gusts up to 55 km/h are also possible.
The shutters of Malampuzha Dam have been opened as heavy rain continues in Kerala. The dam is being opened for the third time in the last 45 days. The Executive Engineer has warned residents and fishermen along the banks of Mukkaipuzha, Kalpathi Puzha and Bharathapuzha to be cautious.
Red alert has been declared at KSEB’s Idamalayar, Kaki, Banasurasagar, Sholayar, Ponmudi, Kundala, Lower Periyar, Kallarkutty and Moozhiyar dams. Orange alert in Mattupetti, Anairangal and Peringalkuth and blue alert in Idukki and Kuttyadi.
Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Kasaragod districts are under yellow alert on Friday. Yellow alert has also been declared in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram on Saturday.
