cause of diseases
Agriculture experts, Devinder Sharma, linking diseases in Punjab to the widespread use of pesticides and fertilizers, says that the use of wheat is very high in Punjab. The chemicals used in them are making them sick. He further explains that the cost of diseases in Punjab is huge and most of the people are not in a position to bear it. Farmers and agricultural workers are the biggest among the suicides. Cancer trains also mostly run with farmers. Contaminated water is also a major cause of diseases in Punjab.
Sharma believes that the rivers of Punjab have turned into drains. Industrial waste is also killing people. They believe that if there is a disease in a house that usually the debt on the family increases by 40 percent. When one member of the family falls ill, the whole family reaches below the poverty line. People are often forced to commit suicide due to debt and illness because they do not see a way out of it.
