The countryside police of Amritsar has arrested an international smuggler including a part of a consignment of 126 kg heroin sent to a fisherman at Dwarka (Gujarat) port. Police have recovered drug money of Rs 4 lakh 93 thousand from the possession of the accused as well as a car and two mobile phones.

Police has started action against the accused by registering a case under the NDPS Act. This information was given by countryside SSP Swapan Sharma and SP Jugraj Singh during a press conference held at Police Line Duburji on Thursday. He has identified the youth arrested with heroin as Gurjant Singh, a resident of Patti tehsil of Tarn Taran.

The Special Unit arrested the accused when he was on his way to deliver heroin in a Swift car. When the police stopped and searched the accused, two kg heroin, drug money of Rs 4 lakh 93 thousand and two mobile phones were found. Ajaypal Singh, the investigating officer of the case, said that after producing the accused Gurjant in the court, he has obtained three-day police remand.

SSP Sharma and SP Jugraj Singh said that the data present inside the mobile recovered from the accused is being scrutinized, so that its other fellow smugglers can also be traced and arrested. He told that this action was taken by the police on the information of the informer. He said that the recovered two kg heroin is part of the consignment of 126 kg heroin. This consignment was sent by a drug smuggler from Pakistan to a fisherman at Dwarka (Gujarat) port. However, the STF of Gujarat Police arrested him at Ahmedabad railway station.
