This is the fourth time in one and a half months that Arvind Kejriwal will not attend this meeting.
New Delhi :
The weekly meeting of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena will not be held this Friday for the third time in a row due to the escalating tension between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor’s office. This is the fourth time in about one and a half months that Kejriwal will not attend the meeting. A statement said that Kejriwal would not be able to attend the meeting due to his two-day visit to Gujarat. “The weekly meeting between Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena will not be held tomorrow (on Friday),” the statement said. The Chief Minister will not be able to attend Friday’s meeting due to his two-day visit to Gujarat.” The statement said Kejriwal will address a public meeting in Gujarat’s Dwarka on September 2 and attend a meeting in Surendranagar the next day.
Saxena and Kejriwal have regular meetings every Friday to discuss matters related to the development of Delhi. However, the meeting scheduled for August 26 last week was canceled due to the special session of the Delhi Assembly. The meeting could not be held even on 19 August. Kejriwal did not attend the meeting on July 22 after Saxena had recommended a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Excise Policy 2021-22.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had raided 31 places including the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia last month on charges of irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. Sisodia is also named in the CBI FIR registered in this case. Apart from this, the Lt Governor had sought a reply from the Chief Secretary on the “extreme delay of two and a half years” in taking action on the CVC’s report regarding irregularities in the construction of classrooms in Delhi government schools. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), on the other hand, has accused Saxena of a “scam of Rs 1400 crore”. Party MLAs have alleged that Saxena had allegedly committed this scam in 2016 when he was the chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission. The MLAs are demanding a CBI inquiry into this matter as well.
