Jagran Correspondent, Chandigarh. Teachers Day 2022: Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on 5th September to mark the birthday of former President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a conductor of Indian culture, an eminent educationist and a great philosopher. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888 in Tirumani, a small village in Tamil Nadu. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in the year 1954. He had expressed his desire to his students to celebrate the birthday as Teacher’s Day, so this day is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in India.
On National Teacher’s Day, Chandigarh’s young artist Varun Tandon has paid tribute to him by making a portrait of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on a blackboard with chalk and duster. Varun Tandon used blackboard, white chalk and duster to make this portrait because these are the main tools of the teacher in the classroom. Varun told that I used to study in this classroom in my childhood. By preparing this picture I paid homage to my gurus. He said that in this digital age there are smart classrooms, but our memories are attached to chalk, dusters and old blackboards. That is why by making this portrait from these old things, memories have also been refreshed.
Varun says that he never did professional study as an art work. He has done BCA and is a Graphic Designer by profession. He works freelance. They make portraits with self thought. His concepts are always changing. Varun puts celebrities who have earned a name in every field in the art work according to their area.
Portraits made by many big personalities
Varun told that even before this he had made a portrait of Milkha Singh on the feather of a pigeon. Apart from this, he has also made portraits of Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, Padma Shri Balbir Singh Sr., world record holder athlete Man Kaur and Param Vir Chakra winner Vikram Batra. He does it all as a hobby, he says that he enjoys it when people support his portrait.
