Jagran Correspondent, Chandigarh. Chandigarh MC Councilors Study Tour: On one hand, there is a fierce opposition to the Goa-Mumbai study tour of the Municipal Corporation. On the other hand, now people have started coming in support of it. Study tour is said to be essential for intellectual development.
Former Mayor and former Congress President Subhash Chawla has supported the study tour of the councilors. Chandigarh Congress leader Subhash Chawla said that he does not understand why the study tour is being opposed. I believe that some people or organizations are opposing the study tour of the municipal councilors due to lack of information. He himself has been a part of such tours many times. Have gone abroad twice. Every time a detailed report of the tour is made. Many projects are still going on in the corporation, which were recommended in these reports. There are many such things on which the work has not been done, for which the responsibility of the officers is not the councillor.
Chawla said that he is aware of not one but ten such reports which are lying in the corporation after the tour. I definitely want to say that the tour should be sent where some corporation has done something better or new than Chandigarh. The tour should be short. Sending a tour is according to the policy of the Government of India. The central government gives 50 lakh rupees every year. All tours of councilors and officers are done from this fund. This fund cannot be used for any other purpose.
Chawla claimed that which and how many projects have been implemented on the In Tour report, he can also give information about it in writing. It becomes the responsibility of the corporation officers to make all this public so that the doubts of the public are removed.
Will go on tour to see Solid Waste Management Plant
Let us inform that in the meeting of the Municipal Corporation held on 31st August, the agenda of the study tour was passed. BJP and Congress supported this agenda. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party protested. Political and social organizations have been opposing it since the agenda was passed. Earlier the tour was to go only to Goa but later Mumbai was also added to it. He will travel to Goa and Mumbai to see the Solid Waste Management Plant. This tour of councilors will go on September 9. Only two of the six Congress councilors will go on this tour.
