Vijay Arya is a student of Jagdev Prasad School

The family background of Vijay Arya, who belongs to the Yadav caste, has been political. His father Ramjatan Singh Yadav was a socialist. He was earlier a follower of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. Later, when Jagdev Prasad gave the slogan – Ninety parts are ours in wealth, earth and Rajpath… then Ramjatan Yadav became active in Jagdev Babu’s movement after being impressed by this slogan. He had also contested elections from Gurua assembly constituency twice. Once the Naxalites had threatened him that if he contested the elections, then his hand would be chopped off, but Ramjatan Yadav accepted the challenge and contested the election as an independent. He had said that whatever he wants to do, he will contest the elections.

Vijay Arya has been a lecturer

The fourth of the seven children (four daughters and three sons) of Ramjatan Yadav, Vijay Kumar Arya was born in Karma village in Koch block of Gaya district in the fifties. He passed the 10th examination from Ashok High School established by Jagdev Prasad at Paraiya in Gaya district. Later he did his PG in Economics from Anugrah Memorial College, Gaya. Vijay Arya is one of the top intellectuals of Maoists

After the assassination of Dara Singh and the death of his father, Vijay Arya started challenging the system in the nineties by forming an open front Jan Suraksha Sangharsh Manch of the MCC. He had put the then Bihar government in trouble by addressing large public meetings in many cities including Gaya, Jehanabad, Dalmia Nagar, Dhanbad, Ranchi, Hazaribagh. The then Bihar government, frightened by the struggle of Vijay Arya, had banned the Jan Suraksha Sangharsh Manch. Hundreds of his supporters were put in jail. Then there came a period when it seemed that now the politics of Vijay Arya would end, but by deceiving the Vijay Arya government of stubborn nature, he created a mass resistance struggle platform and started a fierce struggle. The Maoists made a national identity by forming the Struggling Forum for People’s Resistance. Vijay Arya was made the co-convener of its national council. He played an important role in the formation of the international Maoist organization Reem and Kamposa.

Lalu Yadav was scared of Vijay Arya’s popularity

While the activism of Vijay Arya was putting the central government in jeopardy, the MCC became convinced of the struggles of this powerful leader. Lalu Prasad used to be the Chief Minister of Bihar in those days. In the Lok Sabha elections held in 1997, he won only 7 out of 54 seats in Bihar. The main reason for this was Lalu Yadav’s belief in Left organizations. Then the popularity of Vijay Kumar Arya was at the peak. The condition was that Lalu Prasad had started saying that we are the real Naxalites. Lalu Prasad played a trick with the idea of tricking the supporters of Vijay Arya. Most of the election meetings in Gaya district had started Lalu Prasad Yadav saying that the policies of Vijay Arya and the present government are working for the poor. Vijay Arya will also address the election meeting with us. For this Lalu came to Guraru after the meeting of Sherghati, Paraiya. The two met here. But Vijay Kumar Arya did not share the stage with Lalu Prasad. In those days the news of their meeting had made headlines in the newspapers.
