India’s big help in Ukraine conflict and Covid; Sheikh Hasina praises Modi

Dhaka: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking steps to bring back Bangladeshi students who were stuck in Eastern Europe during the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Sheikh Hasina also praised Modi for his willingness to provide the vaccine to the neighboring countries through the Vaccine Maitri program during the rapid spread of Covid-19. Sheikh Hasina’s statement was made in a special interview granted to news agency ANI.

Highlighting that Modi’s behavior was very friendly on both occasions, Sheikh Hasina stated that although there are many differences of opinion between the two countries, they will be resolved through negotiations and the co-existence with India will be further strengthened. She added that the support provided by the Indian government to the citizens of Bangladesh has been very helpful. Sheikh Hasina was responding to questions about the lack of cooperation among SAARC countries and India’s vaccine partnership programme.

Sheikh Hasina said that India is a loyal friend of Bangladesh and that was evident on many occasions in 1971 and thereafter. They added that both countries give importance to mutual friendship rather than neighboring countries. She also opined that good relations between the two countries should be maintained for the betterment of the citizens of India and Bangladesh.

Hasina thanked Modi and the President for their visit to Bangladesh on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation. Sheikh Hasina will arrive in India on Monday for a three-day visit.
