Idukki: A priest and his friend were jailed for photographing a wild boar by its horns. Father Shelton, vicar of St. Mary’s Church in Rajakkad NR City, Idukki, and his friend Joby Abraham were jailed. On the 5th of this month, while traveling from Pollachi to Valpara, the priest took a photograph while holding on to both horns of the Varayat.

The scene was captured by a traveler and published in a Tamil Nadu daily. The Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, who noticed this, ordered an investigation. Varyad is the state animal of Tamil Nadu and a protected animal listed in Schedule One. Non-bailable sections have been taken against them.

Meanwhile, neither the priest nor the friend knew that their work had been copied by someone else and published in a Tamil Nadu newspaper, a big problem. They had returned from Valpara on the 6th.

The priest and his friend were arrested from Rajakkad last day. The investigation team reached Rajakkad following the number of the vehicle they visited. Then, with the help of the Rajakkad police, they showed the picture and confirmed that it was the priest who was holding the goat from others. Then both were arrested and taken to Pollachi for questioning. Both were produced before the Coimbatore Magistrate and remanded to Pollachi Jail.
