On the occasion of Thiruvalluvar Day, the respective municipal administrations have ordered the closure of meat shops in Puduvai, Tamil Nadu today. On the occasion of Tiruvalluu Day, Thoothukudi Municipal Corporation has announced that it will ban meat shops in areas under Thoothukudi Corporation today (Jan.16). In a statement issued by the Thoothukudi Corporation, according to the order of the Tamil Nadu Government, on the occasion of Thiruvalluvar Day on Monday 16.01.2023, from 12 AM to 12 PM anywhere in the Thoothukudi Municipal Corporation areas, any animal like goat, cow, chicken etc. shall be slaughtered or sold for meat or for any other reasons. It has been reported not to. Similarly, in Salem today, sale in slaughterhouses and meat shops operating in the municipal corporation areas is prohibited.

According to the government’s order, the slaughterhouses and meat shops in Salem Corporation areas should be closed and cooperated with the corporation administration and legal action will be taken against the owners of the butcher shops who are operating illegally in violation of the government’s order. Sale of all types of meat has been banned in Madurai. Meat including goats, cows, chickens and pigs should not be sold on this day. Madurai Municipal Corporation Simran Jeet Singh said that meat shops should not be kept open and action will be taken as per Public Health Section Act 1939 along with confiscation of the meat in the shops.

Similarly, the sale of meat has been banned in various parts of Tamil Nadu today. Commissioner Suresh Raj has said that the meat shops should be closed in the Uzhawarkarai municipal areas of Puducherry. In a press release issued by him, the sale of meat, fish and other meats has been banned today (Jan.16) on the occasion of Tiruvalluvar and Vallalar Day. Goat, cow, pig, poultry meat shops and fish shops should be closed on this day in the areas under Uzhavarkarai Municipality. In case of violation, meat, fish and equipment used for sale will be confiscated and shops and slaughterhouses will be sealed. It has also been informed that legal action will be taken against the seller.
