Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has demanded the appointment of a special diplomatic representative against Islamophobia. The Statesmen reports that he has asked the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to approach the UN Secretary General in this regard.

He added that the worst aspect of Islamophobia is in India, where Hindutva ideologies are spreading. What is most worrying is that Islamophobia continues to find its echo in Europe’s political arenas. This is leading to Islamophobia becoming more entrenched through new legislation and policies such as travel bans and visa restrictions, says Bhutto.

Bhutto says that India was a secular state in the beginning, but today it is becoming a state with Hindu representation. ‘Muslim minorities in India are the largest in the world. Still, Muslim sections of the same country are being killed in the name of cow and so on, he said. One of the worst manifestations of Islamophobia today is in Hindutva-inspired India.

The BJP and RSS regime, which upholds ideologies of hatred against Muslims, is carrying out a centuries-old plan to destroy India’s Islamic heritage and turn India into a Hindu nation, he added.

Last year, it was decided to observe March 15 as the International Day for Combating Islamophobia. It was Pakistan that presented the resolution in this regard. He said that the momentum created by this resolution should be maintained.
