The government has prepared the draft of the Indian Telecommunication Bill, 2022. Although a lot is new in this draft, but there is a lot of discussion about some things. One such topic is the license of WhatsApp and other internet calling apps. These apps will also now need a license like telecom companies.
This bill has just been drafted and the Department of Telecom has sought suggestions from people on this. The information related to this draft has been given by Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav himself. He told that the PM had directed that the draft of the bill should be prepared keeping in mind the security of the users.
Both the service provider and the user should be aware of the caller identity. The existing distinction between voice and data calls has ended, so all calling platforms will have to follow the same regulation.
What is in the new telecommunication bill?
Actually, now internet calling Or there is no such regulation regarding data calls. After the passage of the new bill, data calling apps will also have to comply with the rules of telecom companies. At the same time, there is not much information on caller identity. This information has not been given in the draft of the bill.
The Telecom Minister told in the press conference that India has the potential to lead the telecom sector. Keeping this in mind, USOF (Universal Service Obligation Fund) is being expanded. The Prime Minister has clearly said that we have prepared a parallel 5G service of global standard and will lead the world in terms of 6G technology.
The focus is on spectrum use
He said that licenses for telecom services and networks, registration of telecom infrastructure, wireless equipment authentication and spectrum would be given through auction except in a few cases. The Union Minister says that our focus is on effective use of spectrum.
