Chandigarh. During the last 10 days in PGI, three families have brought happiness in 13 lives by taking the decision of organ donation. While six kidneys received from organ donation have been saved by transplanting critical patients, while six corneas have been transplanted, eyes have been shed in the lives of six blind people. Apart from this, the life of a Delhi patient has been saved by air-lifting the heart if it is not matched.
While paying tribute to the organ donor family, PGI Director Prof. Vivek Lal says that it is unexpected and unimaginable to think beyond to save the lives of some strangers amidst the tragic demise of one’s own family member. But these three donor families had this exemplary courage to do something for the society, even when their own world was devastated. On the other hand, Medical Superintendent of PGI and Nodal Officer of Roto Prof. Vipin Kaushal said that extensive work is done to make any organ donation and transplant successful. From obtaining the consent of the family of the deceased to safely obtaining organs, allocating and transporting organs, multiple teams including physicians, transplant coordinators, transplant teams, OT team, forensic department, support department, Roto and Noto and police are working. This sequence of saving lives through organ donation is the result of successful coordination between all the teams.

Dinanath, 60, a resident of Morinda, was hit from behind by a speeding vehicle on September 4. The family members immediately admitted to the Civil Hospital Kharar due to serious head injury. A family resident of Ropar, Punjab has set an example by deciding to donate their organs even after losing their 13-year-old son in a road accident.
