The West Bengal President of Popular Front of India (PFI) was arrested by the Assam Police from Delhi and brought here to be produced before the court.

National Desk: The West Bengal President of Popular Front of India (PFI) was arrested by the Assam Police from Delhi and brought here to be produced before the court. The police gave this information on Friday. PFI leader Minarul Sheikh was arrested on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday at 12.30 am from the national capital and brought to Guwahati.

Sheikh has been made an accused in a Special Operations Unit (SOU) case and an FIR has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including sedition, criminal conspiracy, abetting enmity. Another PFI worker, Bajrul Karim, was arrested from Karimganj in Assam on Thursday and brought here late in the night.

Karim is the general secretary of PFI’s Barak Valley District Committee and a member of the state executive. After Sheikh’s arrest, 11 members of PFI have been arrested by the Assam Police so far. Of these, nine accused were sent to five-day police custody on Thursday. A day earlier, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted simultaneous raids in 15 states and arrested members of PFI on a large scale.
