BBC Documentary: The controversy over the BBC documentary has now taken a violent turn. The documentary series was screened in some colleges of Kerala on Tuesday (January 24) late evening. In protest against this, the youth wing of BJP created a lot of ruckus. Yuva Morcha also took out a march against it. Even some people clashed with the police in the capital. Police fired several rounds of water canon. Many workers have suffered minor injuries during this violent protest.
In fact, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the ruling CPI(M), had organized the screening and the BJP was strongly opposed to it. BJP workers marched to the screening venue and tried to remove the barricades when the police stopped them. Pulik had to use several rounds of water cannons. Activists clashed with the police but the screening continued despite protests.
Congress will also do documentary screening
Police said similar protests were also reported from Palakkad and Wayanad districts. DYFI’s Dekha Dekhi Youth Congress has also decided to screen the documentary on 26 January i.e. Republic Day. The decision to screen the documentary has found support from Youth Congress leader Anil K Antony, son of senior leader AK Antony. Now the ruckus is increasing all over the country regarding this documentary.
Documentary has been made on Gujarat riots
The reason why this 59-minute documentary is getting so much controversy is deepening because it is about the 2002 Gujarat riots. The Indian government has directed social media and video-sharing companies to remove the documentary or its links from their platforms. The government alleges that there is a lack of objectivity in this documentary. It has been shown incorrectly.
Uproar over documentary in JNU as well
In Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) too, late night on Tuesday (January 25), leftist student organizations created a lot of ruckus. During this, the Left and ABVP had come face to face and both of them had a long tussle. Apart from this, its screening was also done in Hyderabad University.
