Kochi: The journey of the MV Kavarathi ship, which was announced to leave yesterday to bring temporary relief to the travel woes to Lakshadweep, was suddenly halted. With this, 700 passengers, including islanders and around 200 tourists, became distressed. It is reported that the reason is that the survey measures to assess the ship’s fitness have not been completed. As per the schedule announced earlier, MV Kavarathi is scheduled to depart on the 28th. It is also said that if the survey is completed, it is possible to leave on 27th.

It was on Monday evening that the passengers received a message from the Lakshadweep authorities informing them that the journey of the ship, which was supposed to start boarding at 9 am yesterday, has been postponed. The travelers who are islanders who settled the accounts of the lodges and others that they had been renting for weeks and were about to leave, were also disappointed with this. Their wait is getting longer.

It is reported that some of the tourists, including foreigners and natives from other states, reached the Lakshadweep office in Kochi yesterday but did not receive any definite confirmation. The MV Kavarathi ship was undergoing a fitness survey for 10 days. This was completed and included in the schedule to depart yesterday. All tickets sold out on the 17th. That trip was stopped. The trip connected the tourist islands of Minikoi, Kalpeni and Agathi, so a large number of tourists were also required to travel.

Meanwhile, the vessel MV Arabian Sea, which the authorities had announced to start service before April, conducted its first service on Sunday. This ship will return today. Tomorrow it will operate to Kalpeni and Antroth islands. This ship can accommodate 250 people.

With the arrival of MV Arabian Sea, the number of cruise ships to Lakshadweep has increased to four. The other day, Manorama had reported the sad story of hundreds of islanders who came to Kerala for treatment but had to stay in Kochi with their families because they did not have ship tickets. Subsequently, the schedule was revised to include MV Arabian Sea.
