The slowdown in liquor business is such that many shopkeepers are facing loss of crores.
Officials say this situation has come since Kovid
Dehradun. Uttarakhand, which is one of the top states in terms of liquor consumption, is now proving to be a loss-making deal for liquor traders. Neither the government is benefiting nor the people associated with the business. Even in many shops, the situation is such that the stock has to be vacated by giving offers on liquor. So there some businessmen are bent on overrating.
The slowdown in the liquor business is such that many shopkeepers are facing losses worth crores. Some have surrendered their licenses and some are trying their hand at some other work after wrapping up the business. Some are also seen emptying the stock by giving offers of 30 to 50 percent. People associated with the business say that when the revenue is to be given to the government and the sales are less, then the problem of over-rating also arises. On the other hand, liquor is expensive in Uttarakhand as compared to neighboring states, due to which people are preferring to bring liquor from Delhi, Haryana only.
Officials told Corona the reason
On the other hand, officials say that this situation has come after Kovid, the government will take its revenue, while the shopkeeper is facing financial crisis due to low sales. Excise officer Rajeev Kumar says that such a situation has arisen after the Corona period. Businessmen should not surrender the license. Gradually the situation will improve. Now, whether the reason for the loss in the liquor business is Covid or something else, it is certain that people have started avoiding putting their hands in the liquor business for which people used to fight.
