Amaravati, May 26 Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday launched a week-long program to distribute residential plots to 50,793 eligible poor women at Venkatapalem village in Guntur district in Amaravati region.
Apart from this, the Chief Minister also launched a program to hand over Andhra Pradesh Urban and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDCO) houses to 5,024 beneficiaries, built at a cost of Rs 444 crore in the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) area.
Documents for plots up to Rs 10 lakh will be given in Tadikonda and Mangalagiri assembly constituencies. The government has made these plots available for the poor by amending the CRDA Act for allotment of housing sites.
Reddy said, “This festival of distribution of land to 50,000 families is a great moment in the history of the state and the country as the state government fought a long legal battle right up to the Supreme Court to give land to the poor. We are witnessing this moment in Amaravati.
Addressing a large gathering, the chief minister alleged that several opponents, especially farmers backed by the opposition TDP (Telugu Desam Party), tried to legally derail the effort, but failed.
He said that patta is not just a land related document, but it is also a “document of social justice”. He said that from today Amravati would be a “social Amaravati”.
