Farmers should start preparing for Kharif crops

BAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Onkar Nath Singh has advised the farmers to start preparations for cultivation of Kharif crops.

Told that only a fortnight is left for the monsoon to enter the state. Preparation for Kharif farming at the right time will be very useful and beneficial for the farmers of the state.

In preparation of the fields, for the crops to be sown in the month of June, complete the plowing of the field with priority. Before the last ploughing, add compost manure to the fields and mix it well in the soil. It would be advisable for the farmers to use the recommended quantity of fertilizers on the basis of soil test.

If the soil of the fields is of acidic nature, farmers should use lime at the rate of 4 quintals per hectare at the time of sowing and mix it well in the soil at the time of sowing, in addition to the fertilizers recommended in the cultivation of maize, pulses and oilseed crops.

These are the ways of good yield

If there is no uniform germination in the fields, sow the seeds again in the empty places. Uproot if there are too many plants at one place. Control weeds after 15 days of sowing. Be sure to treat native or organic fertilizers along with chemical fertilizers in the field. Before sowing, apply lime or dolomite at the rate of 1.5 to 2.0 quintals per acre in furrows to remove the acidity of the soil. Make sure to treat the seeds with fungicide before sowing. After seed treatment of pulses and oilseed crops, treating the seeds with Rhizobium culture will be of great benefit.
