
The Meteorological Agency has said in its weather forecast that a cyclone is likely to form in the Southeast Arabian Sea from June 5 to June 7. Notably, heavy rainfall and flash floods are likely to occur in Maharashtra along with Mumbai and Konkan region due to the low pressure area formed in the Arabian Sea.
Cyclone Biparjoy Dates in Mumbai & Konkan: Only a few days are left for monsoon to enter the state. The IMD has predicted the formation of a low pressure area over the Arabian Sea by June 7. Due to this there is a possibility of developing a cyclone and this cyclone has been named as Cyclone Biparjoy. Due to this cyclone, a low pressure area will form and may develop into a cyclone in the next 48 hours. Notably, heavy rainfall and flash floods are likely to occur in Maharashtra along with Mumbai and Konkan region due to the low pressure area formed in the Arabian Sea. Meanwhile, several reports have also claimed that if the low pressure area develops into a cyclone, it is likely to be called ‘Cyclone Bipperjoy’. In the month of April, the IMD released a detailed list of names of tropical cyclones over the North Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. Cyclone names for India included Gati, Tej, Murasu, Aag, Vyom, Zar, Neer and Ghurni, while Cyclone Biparjoy got its name for Bangladesh and included some other names like Nisarga, Arnab and Upakul.
Cyclone Biparjoy likely to cause flooding with heavy rains –
According to reports, if the low pressure area develops into a cyclone, it can trigger heavy rainfall. Due to this, there is a possibility of flash floods in Maharashtra. The tentative dates of Cyclone Biparjoy indicate that the cyclonic circulation is likely to bring heavy rains to Maharashtra including Pune.
Apart from this, Mumbai is likely to witness heavy rainfall between June 8 and 10 following the development of a low pressure area into a cyclone. Meteorologists have predicted the possibility of heavy rains in Mumbai and Konkan region between June 11 and 12. Cyclone is likely to cause flash floods in Konkan.
