The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rain is likely to occur in 13 districts of Tamil Nadu on December 8 as a result of Cyclone Mandus.

The Meteorological Department has warned that 8 districts of Tamil Nadu will experience heavy rains and 13 districts will experience very heavy rains on December 8 due to the low pressure area in the South Andaman Sea region.

In this regard, the Meteorological Department has said in a statement:-

A low pressure area has formed over South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas this morning. It is moving in west-northwest direction and is likely to intensify into a depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal on 6th evening. It will then move further west-northwestward and intensify into a cyclonic storm and may reach North-East-Pudu, and adjoining south Andhra coastal areas on December 8 morning.

05.12.2022 and 06.12.2022: Light to moderate rain at a couple of places over Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal.

07.12.2022: Light to moderate rain with thundershower at many places over coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal and a couple of places over interior districts of Tamil Nadu. Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai districts and Karaikal regions received heavy rain at one or two places.

08.12.2022: Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at most places over Tamil Nadu coastal districts, Puduwai and Karaikal and at a few places in interior Tamil Nadu districts. Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Chennai, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam districts and Puducherry, Karaikal may witness heavy to very heavy rain; Very heavy rain has occurred at a couple of places. Iranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Thiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukottai, Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram districts also received heavy rain at one or two places.

09.12.2022: Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at most places over Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal. Heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in Thiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Salem districts, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Karur and Ero. Heavy rain is also likely at a few places in the districts and Puducherry areas.

Weather Forecast for Chennai and Suburbs:

The sky will remain partly cloudy for the next 48 hours. Light rain with thunder and lightning may occur at a few places. The maximum temperature will be around 31-32 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature will be around 25-26 degree Celsius.

Warning to Fishermen:

Andaman Sea Regions : Cyclonic wind speed of 40 to 45 kmph with occasional gust of 55 kmph is likely on 05.12.2022, 06.12.2022.

South East Bay of Bengal: Cyclonic wind speed of 45 to 55 kmph with occasional gusts of 65 kmph is likely during 05.12.2022-07.12.2022.

South West Bay of Bengal: Cyclonic wind speed of 45 to 55 kmph with occasional gusting to 65 kmph on 06.12.2022; Wind speed will gradually increase to gusty winds of 55 to 65 kmph with occasional gusts of 75 kmph on 07.12.2022 and 70 to 80 kmph with intermittent gusts of 90 kmph on 08.12.2022. After that the wind speed may decrease gradually.

Tamil Nadu- Puduwai and adjacent South Andhra Coastal areas, North Sri Lankan Coastal Areas : Cyclonic wind speed 40 to 50 kmph intermittently 60 kmph starting morning on 08.12.2022 Wind speed will gradually increase from 08.12.2022 evening to 09.12.2022 morning from 60 Gusts of 70 kmph with occasional gusts of 80 kmph. Then the wind speed will gradually decrease to 45 to 55 kmph with occasional gusts of 65 kmph on 09.12.2022 evening.

Gulf of Mannar Areas: Cyclonic wind speed of 40 to 50 kmph with occasional gusts of 60 kmph from 07.12.2022 to 09.12.2022.

Fishermen are advised not to go to these areas on the above days. This is stated in the report
