Mathura. National Democratic Alliance (NDA) constituent Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Chaudhary Jayant Singh on Saturday announced that he will never contest elections against Mathura MP Hema Malini in future.

In the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the public meeting organized in support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Hema Malini in Mathura-Vrindavan, the RLD chief said, ‘Hema ji, we and you will never contest elections face to face. It has also been decided. He said, ‘Not this time, next time whenever I contest the Lok Sabha, you will definitely come to campaign for me, I also take this promise.’

Sharing old memories, Chaudhary said, ‘I was a fan of Hema ji since childhood, then Hema ji came to our election campaign in 2009 and I did not know that then we would contest elections face to face (against each other). ‘

Choudhary contested and won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections as an RLD candidate from Mathura, but in 2014 he lost to BJP candidate Hema Malini. Then in 2019, he changed the constituency and contested from Baghpat under the RLD-SP and BSP alliance, where he was defeated by BJP’s Satyapal Singh.

Choudhary said, ‘If a film was made between us and Hemaji, its name would be ’15 Saal Baad’, because 15 years ago Hema ji had come to campaign for us, we got her support and you gave her full blessings. Now I am asking for votes for them. Referring to his strong relationship with Mathura, he said, ‘Today after 15 years, I have come to ask for votes for her (Hema Malini), you have to live up to my expectations.’

Chaudhary recently left the alliance of opposition parties ‘India’ and joined the NDA after the central government awarded ‘Bharat Ratna’ to his grandfather, former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. Under the agreement, NDA has given the seats of Baghpat and Bijnor to RLD. Voting will be held in the second phase in Mathura on 26 April.
