Chennai: Vijay’s re-released film ‘Gilli’ created waves at the box office. Vijay fans have taken the film with enthusiasm. According to reports, the film earned around Rs 11 crore on the first day of its re-release. The film is getting good response in the following days as well.
The re-release is part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the release of ‘Gilli’. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the film was also re-released in Kerala. It was also released in UK, France and Ireland. ‘Gilli’ also benefited from not having any big releases due to the Lok Sabha elections.
Trisha played the heroine Dhanalakshmi in the film, in which Vijay played the role of kabaddi star Velu. Prakash Raj appeared in the film as the villain Muthupandi. Ashish Vidyarthi and Nagendra Prasad also played the lead roles. According to reports, Gilli, which was made in 2004 at a cost of Rs 8 crore, entered the Rs 50 crore club. Vijay paid Rs 4 crore for the film.
Meanwhile, Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Got’ is the new film starring Vijay as the lead. The film will hit theaters on September 5, 2024.
