Actor Kochu Preman passed away

Kochi: Actor Kochu Preman passed away. He was 68 years old. He died at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. For the past few days he had some difficulty due to respiratory illness. Kochu Preman died today while being taken to hospital due to physical discomfort.

He is noted for his comedic roles and entered the acting arena through drama. Kochu Preman’s first movie is ‘Seven Colors’. Kochu Preman was born on June 1, 1955 as the son of Sivarama Shastri and Kamalath in Peyad village of Valappil panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram district. Kochu Preman completed his primary education at Peyad Govt. School, Thiruvananthapuram MG. Graduated from college. The correct name is KS Premkumar.

He wrote and directed a play for the first time when he was studying in the 8th standard. After its success, he composed a second play called Ushnarasi. The dramas were telecasted by Aakashvani’s program Ithali. After school, she began to take drama seriously when she acted in a play called Jwalamukhi by Jagathy NK Achari for Thiruvananthapuram Kavita Stage. After this, she acted in Gayathri Theatres’ play Anamika. Later, he worked for around ten drama committees like Sangha Chetana and Kalidasa Kala Kendra.

Kochu Preman’s famous plays which have created many fans are Kerala Theatres’ Amritham Gamaya, Venjaramoodu Sanghachetana’s Swathi Thirunal, Indulekha and Rajan.P. Dev’s Adityamangalam Aryavaidyasala. When he was active in the drama committee, his friend with the same name was also in that committee. After this it started to be known as Kochu Preman. Famous director J.C. Kuttikkad, who saw the play written and directed by Kochu Preman, gave him an opportunity to move from play to film.

Kochu Preman’s first movie was the movie Yehu Laharar which was released in 1979. Later in 1997 Kochupreman starred in Rajasena’s Dilliwala Prince and did eight films with Rajasena. Meanwhile, director Sathyan Anthikad is watching the play starring Kochupreman. After his excellent performance in the drama, Kochu Preman got a very impressive role in the movie ‘Father of Twins’ which was released in 1997.

Kochupreman’s opinion is that the film that gave him the label of cinema actor is the 1997 release of Twins’ Aath. It was in 1997 when he acted in the film Guru that he proved that he is not an actor who only handles comedy roles. Kochupreman became a busy actor in Malayalam cinema after getting noticed for his role in the 2003 film Glujum directed by Jayaraj. Kochu Preman’s role in the 2016 film Leela, directed by Ranjith, drew a lot of criticism. But Kochupreman sees those criticisms as the audience’s recognition of the actor in him. So far in Malayalam cinema, Kochupreman has acted in 250 films and was active in tele-serials as well. Kochupreman’s wife is the movie serial star Girija. They have a son. Name is Harikrishnan.
