New Delhi: Ravindra Jadeja has become a batsman capable of batting at number four or number five. Depending on the situation, he can also score quick runs at the bottom position. As long as Jadeja is used as a ‘floater’, Rishabh Pant’s place in the T20 team will not be considered secure, said former selector Saba Karim.
India chose only one left-hander in the batting order against Pakistan. On the other hand, senior player Dinesh Karthik was entrusted with the dual responsibility of finisher and wicket keeper. In a show, Saba said, ‘I think the team management has decided to play Dinesh Karthik in the Asia Cup. So Ravindra Jadeja was used as a ‘floater’. In the previous match, he played at fourth position. Matchmaker Jadeja will be seen playing in a new way. As a left-handed batsman, he can bat at number four or number five. As he is fit to score quick runs even at the bottom position, there is no place for Pant in the final eleven at present.’
If batting is to be given importance, if Pant is included in the final eleven, Dinesh Karthik will have to sit out. Rishabh Pant is the ‘X factor’, he can get you out of tough situations and become a match winner.
So how can you sit out players like Rishabh? I was surprised myself that Pant was not in the final eleven. I am of the opinion of giving Rishabh a place in the team instead of Dinesh Karthik. Karim said that I still stand by the opinion that Rishabh can be more useful than Karthik.
