Tehran: 31 people have reportedly been killed in clashes following the mysterious death of a young woman in police custody who was arrested for not wearing a hijab in Iran. Hijab is compulsory for women in Iran. A separate police unit called ‘Hijab Force’ has been created to enforce this. The special force registers cases and takes action including arrests against women who do not or do not wear hijab properly.

Last week, a young woman named Masha Amini (22) was arrested by the police for going without hijab. He died mysteriously while in police custody. The police beat him to death, and there was an uproar across Iran. Iranian women are protesting against the hijab and demanding justice for this woman. It is getting serious day by day. Thousands of people are protesting in 13 cities, including the capital, Dekran. Due to this, there is tension.

Clashes are taking place between protesters and security forces at many places. It has been reported that 31 people have been killed so far. This includes the police. However, the official information is yet to be released. The government is imposing various restrictions to control this protest. Internet services and social media applications including WhatsApp and Instagram have been blocked to prevent the spread of the protest.
