Why the black band on Stark’s hand?
The biggest question is why Mitchell Starc had tied a black band on his hands. He wore this black band to pay tribute to his former teammate Phillip Hughes. Left-handed batsman Hughes was the rising star of the Australia team. Hughes, who played 26 Tests and 25 ODIs for Australia, tragically died in 2014 after an accident while playing for New South Wales.
the bouncer hit him on the back of the head
25-year-old Phillip Hughes was hit on the neck by a bouncer and fell on the field. He was immediately taken to the hospital but did not survive. Starc and many other members of the Australian team were close friends and teammates of Hughes. Even in the final of the 2015 World Cup, Mitchell Starc came to play on the field wearing a black armband. In that final, the then Australian captain Michael Clarke also had a black band on his hands.
Australia champion for the sixth time
Australia won the World Cup title for the sixth time by winning the final match by 6 wickets. Starc was the most successful bowler in the final match. He dismissed KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami along with Shubman Gill for 55 runs. Starc was also getting reverse swing in the last spell. This made batting more difficult.
